A multi-journal platform for a management research publisher: article search, subscriptions, submissions and librarian access.
Publishing India Group publishes peer-reviewed management journals across commerce, banking, hospitality and industrial relations. The platform has to serve four different audiences at once — authors, editors, subscribing libraries and readers — each of whom wants something different from the same body of content.
What it does
- A multi-journal catalogue with per-journal branding and editorial teams
- Article search across the whole archive by keyword and author
- Subscription and librarian access control for institutional subscribers
- Manuscript submission and call-for-papers workflow
- Per-journal metrics: acceptance rate, publishing timeline and citation indicators
The hard part
Search at archive scale. A publisher with years of back issues needs results that stay fast and relevant as the corpus grows, which is a very different problem from searching a single journal.
What a journal website design project involves
Academic publishing sites, which are their own discipline. A journal site is judged by editors, by authors and by indexing bodies, and the last of those checks things no ordinary website is ever asked for: consistent metadata, resolvable DOIs, archival policy and a peer review process visible from the outside.
